Whilst out shopping at my local chemist/drugstore a few days ago, I noticed a new Christmas collection by Rimmel on display. So of course I had to buy some products to try. There were two eye shadow pallets, a mascara and the most gorgeous looking red lipstick. If I’m honest it’s the lipstick that sold it to me. I simply cannot resist a red lipstick and I believe a girl can never have too many red lipsticks!
The whole collection feels Christmassy and combines gold, warm red and burgundy colours. Both eye shadow palettes allow you to create a wide range of looks suitable for everyday or Christmas parties. They come in a black plastic case with a see through panel to allow you to see the colours plus a mirror on the inside lid which is great for a drugstore palette as they more than often don’t have a mirror. There is also a double-ended sponge applicator. The back of the box also shows some ways to apply the colours which is always handy especially for people who are less confident when applying makeup.
There are 8 shades in each palette including a mix of shimmer and matte shades, perfect for sculpting, shading and defining the eyes. They claim to be rich, intense, long-lasting colours that are crease-proof, smear-proof and wear all day.
Magnif’eyes Eye Contouring Palette in 001 Keep Calm and Wear Gold
£7.99 from www.boots.com
I like the quirky name of this palette! This is a collection of gold and browns. A warm set of neutral colours. It contains 3 matte shades, a cream/bone colour and a light and dark brown. There is a shimmery bronze, gold and brown. Finally the last two colours are a medium brown and a dark brown. These two colours are matte with a slight glitter in them. The sparkle is really subtle though. This would usually be my go to type of colours. I consider them safe colours. I know I would wear them day and night and get lots of use out of this palette.
Magnif’eyes Eye Contouring Palette in 003 Grunge Glamour
£7.99 from www.boots.com
As mentioned above, I usually go for safe palettes but bought this to encourage myself to try some different shades. This palette contains a mix of warm autumn burgundy gold types of colours. There are 2 mattes, a mid-brown and a really pigmented black/brown. There are also 6 shimmer shades in a white, 2 neutral browns perfect for the crease, a gold, rich burgundy and cool silver blue. This is a really nice collection of colours. You could use this palette in many ways. You could create a warm gold eye, a Christmassy red and gold eye or a smoky cool blue/silver and back eye.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate Moss Lipstick 15 Year Retro Red
£6.49 from www.boots.com
This gorgeous lipstick is actually part of the special edition to celebrate 15 Years of Rimmel & Kate Moss. It is a shiny rose gold bullet packaging. The colour is a really intense rich red. It has a lovely cream texture that glides onto the lip. It has a really nice strawberry smell too. I love this lipstick and can see already it is going to be one of my staples over the Christmas period.
So I decided the only way for me to really show you the products was to apply them and let you see them on. I am not a makeup artist and I am certainly not a model, just an average mum of two in her late 30s, so please ignore the face and just enjoy the makeup.
I used the 001 Keep Calm and Wear Gold palette. I applied the pale matte brown in my crease and darkened up the crease with the warmer matte brown. I then applied the two darkest shades gradually in the outer v blending and building bit by bit. I then mixed the shimmery bronze and gold together on the inside and middle of my lid. I did the same colours and routine under the bottom lashes. I topped it off with Rimmel Glam’eyes liquid eyeliner and lots of mascara. This would be perfect for a night out.
I am really impressed with the products I have bought from the collection. They come in a lovely range of colours, apply well and give good colour payoff. They are reasonable priced and good value for money too. Plus, Boots have an offer on in the UK at the moment 3 for 2 on all Rimmel products.
