It is that time of the month again where I bring to you my review of the September Birchbox. This box is partnered with Oliver Bonas, a British Lifestyle brand with the theme ‘work hard, play hard & be kind.’ I always get this balance so wrong. I seem to work so very hard and play very little because I am too tired from working hard! Anyway, I hope you like the review.
As always, the September Birchbox is housed in a funky little box with a gorgeous pattern on. It contains 5 products, 2 full size and 3 sample sizes. Plus, three products are Birchbox exclusives.
IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser by Polaar
Trial Size / Full size RRP £22.00
This is a roll-on eye soother that contains a cooling gel. It contains ginseng to brighten, tone and rejuvenate your under-eye area. This product is really refreshing when applied, however, I found the metal ball felt quite hard when rolled on the delicate skin area under my eyes.
Original Clear Balm by Dr. Pawpaw
Trial Size / Full size RRP£6.95
This is a multi-use product that can be applied to lips, skin, nails and even hair to moisturise and smooth. It is a thick gel with no smell. It reminds me of Vaseline but not as greasy.
Fantasy 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter & Eyeshadow by Manna Kadar
Full size RRP £15.00
This is a champagne-pink pearlised powder that can be applied to eyes and cheeks to add a pop of colour whilst adding radiance. It is a Birchbox exclusive. It can be applied with a brush to give a highlight like glow. I like to use it with my finger on my eyelids to add a pop of shimmer. It is a neutral subtle colour that I think is handy in everyone’s makeup bag.
Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm by Arrow
Full size RRP £11.00
This lip balm is another Birchbox exclusive. It is a high-tech balm that adjusts to your natural pH creating the perfect colour. It contains mango seed butter to hydrate and protect the lips. This is the product I have been using the most. I was really intrigued when I read the description for this. I am a lover of lip balm and tend to wear it most days. So, I couldn’t wait to see if it really did adjust to a colour that suited me. Unbelievably it did! It is really moisturising and actually turns my lips a lovely nude pink colour. I really like this product.
Protect & Detangle by Beauty Protector
Trial Size / Full Size RRP £18.50
This is a multi-purpose hair product that claims to condition, detangle, minimise frizz, protect colour and add shine to all hair types. It’s free from parabens and sulphates too. I found this product smelt nice and applied easily. However, I felt it weighed my hair down a bit and my fine hair looked quite flat. I also recommend not applying normal conditioner applying this as my hair was quite greasy by the end of the day. It did make my hair smooth though and my hair felt nice. It would suit thicker hair.
Overall, I had mixed feelings about this box if I’m honest. I really look forward to my Birchbox arriving but this one just didn’t really blow me away. I really like a few products but the Dr PawPaw balm was too similar to the Arrow lip balm and the hair product is fine but I got a really good hair product in my last box that I am still using.
