Today, I have another treat for you from fellow blogger Brigitte Evans. Brigitte is a Cosmetic Skin Care Consultant and writer over in Australia. As we head into spring here in the UK, Brigitte has some really helpful advice and tips to help you feel great and glow both inside and out.

We are all so excited because, even if it has trouble making up its mind about the weather, spring is finally here. The dresses and skirts are already out and we are more than ready to get some sun. But let’s pump the brakes for just a second. Before you run off into the sunset, you need to make sure you are doing everything you can to protect your skin and make it shine. And it’s not only important for the looks; skin that is healthy and taken good care of will always look and feel amazing, so don’t skip these steps:

Start with the sunscreen

Even though you should really be using sunscreen during the entire year, a lot of people tend to skip this step during winter. But now that you are going directly into the sun again and you don’t yet have any kind of tan, you really don’t want to skimp on this. First step: check all of the labels on your creams and throw away those that are past the expiration date. You never want to apply old products on your skin. Then, find something that you know you will use. If you think it’s too much of a hassle to add this extra step into your routine (and you are definitely not alone with this), get a moisturizer or a primer with high SPF and simply substitute your old one with that.

A moisturizer is key

Having healthy, glowing skin is impossible without proper hydration, both from the inside and out. And while we like to use heavier creams during the winter to protect our skin and give it some extra food, spring allows us to swap those out for something lighter. Choose a water-based moisturizer, because it will feel light on your skin, and won’t make you feel like you have a ton of product on. If you want to apply a very thin layer of foundation on your skin, you can always mix your foundation with your moisturizer on the back of your hand and apply it like that. It will give you light coverage without feeling one bit heavy. You can also find BB or CC creams that contain moisturizer.

Heal the skin

You will want to wear lighter makeup during spring because having something heavy on your face will make you feel like a cake with frosting. But this means that many imperfections will be showing through – if they are there. So visit a dermatologist and see what you can do to heal your skin and get rid of some of the imperfections. Treating your acne or getting pigmentation removal treatment will leave your skin smooth and evenly coloured. It’s not only important because of makeup, but also for long-term skin health. Make sure you do it at a professional clinic and ask about all the treatment options to choose the best one for you.

Exfoliate

During the winter, our skin goes through a lot. The harsh winds and the cold air roughen it, and you want to exfoliate a bit less during that time, because any new skin you reveal will be more sensitive and might get damaged easily. But now it’s spring and you are more than ready to scrub off those dry layers of dead skin and reveal the fresh new stuff you have underneath. Make sure you are not rough with your skin, and that you always use a mild exfoliator no more than three times per week. Making it a gradual process is the only healthy way to do this. And don’t forget that you have a body below the neck. Exfoliate your entire body with a good body scrub to end up with wonderful, smooth skin that is summer dress-ready.

Make sure that you are taking care of your skin from the inside as well. Drink lots of water and try to avoid any highly processed or very sugary foods, since they will dull the shine on your skin you worked so hard for. Exercising regularly and sweating it out will help your skin expel toxins and make it shiny and tight. Remember to always wear a hat and sunglasses if the sun is too bright and always have a small tube of sunscreen in your purse to reapply it on the go.
