Welcome to my review for August’s Birchbox. I am very sorry for the late timing of this. I have actually been away sunning myself in Portugal for the past couple of weeks! I have not used any of the products as I like to write my post as I review them. So, it has killed me keeping them in the box and not touching them.
Firstly, I am absolutely loving the ‘Mermaid Vibes’ theme of the August Birchbox. They are thinking beachy waves, glistening skin and gorgeous summer nights with this box. The box is soft blues and greens with a mermaid pattern on.
There are 5 products in my August Birchbox this month. 2 Full size, 3 sample sizes and 2 are Birchbox exclusives. Items in all Birchbox boxes are personalised, so everyone gets different products, ensuring they are suitable for you.
A05 Brush from Spectrum
Part of a brush set priced RRP: £59.99
You were allowed to choose which theme brush you wanted. I chose the Glam Clam style which is a gorgeous aqua coloured handle with an ombre of lilac and purple bristles. It is a full size synthetic brush with very soft bristles. The brush has a tapered edge, perfect for bronzers, highlighters and contour. You can really get it into your cheekbones. This is my favourite item in the box.
One and Done Shadow Stick from LOC
This is a creamy eyeshadow stick. Not only is it full size but it is a Birchbox Exclusive too. Mine is in the shade ‘Out of your Shell’, which is a creamy peachy, cream colour. It has a slight shimmer.
They recommend applying it with your fingers and claim it will last for 11 hours without creasing. Plus, it is waterproof. Perfect for summer evenings. It applies well and blends out easily too. Mine is a perfect neutral colour for all over the lid. I really like this shadow stick.
Sugar Texturizing Spray from Number 4
I was excited to receive this product. It is a texturizing spray, perfect for creating loose shiny beach waves. They claim it creates waves without crunch and will last through heat and humidity. Now, I have naturally wavy hair but God do I struggle trying to get it right. They make it look so easy on tutorials, but I really struggle getting products that work with my fine hair. ‘Crunch’ is something that seems to happen with nearly all the products I try, no matter how little I apply. So, I have been using this for the past few days and it is really good. I spray it into damp hair and then scrunch my hair and let it dry naturally. It does not leave any hardness or crunch to the hair. It adds a nice amount of texture too so I could still see a bit of shine coming through. I am impressed with this texturizing spray.
Huile Prodigieuse OR Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer by NUXE
This is a sample size of the dry oil. It contains nourishing vitamins that can be applied to your skin, hair and body to create a golden radiance. I have actually received one of these samples in a Glossybox in the past and loved the sound of it but never actually used it for some reason. So, I have been using this one for the past couple of days to get a good idea of what it is like. It smells lovely and is a subtle shimmer/glow to the skin which I like. It is not too much, just makes your skin look like you have been sitting in the sun.
Renewing Mud Mask by Whish
This is an exfoliating mud mask packed with fruit enzymes. They claim it will brighten and purify your skin. I have not applied this yet as I have just been away and don’t like to apply anything like this in case it reduces my suntan!! I know this sounds really vain and I am properly completely wrong with my theory on this but hey ho! I will however, review it in more detail in a few weeks as I really like mud masks.
So Overall, I really like August’s Birchbox. This is only my third Birchbox and I have been really impressed with all the contents so far. I feel they are very good brands and you receive a nice variety of products. My favourite products are the Spectrum Brush and Number 4 Texturising Spray.
You can subscribe to the Birchbox or purchase the products here. It only costs £10 + £2.95 per month and as you can see from the items in this review they are worth a lot more than the subscription price. You can also do it month by month too without having to do a long-term contract. I look forward to my Birchbox treat every month.
