Today’s post is a comparison / dupe post. As a makeup junkie, I like these types of posts as I am always on the lookout for a great dupe for a high-end product. I am going to compare the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz with the NYX Micro Brow Pencil.
I have been using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz for about 18 months now. I am not great with eye brows and after years of plucking as a teenager, my eye brows are terrible. They are all patchy and thin. After many unsuccessful attempts with a range of brow products, I found that the Anastasia Brow Wiz worked great. I am not a big fan of big eyebrows and just like mine to look natural and this product creates a really natural look. However, it is pricey at £22.00 and does not last long so I have to keep purchasing it.
I researched online and found several references to the NYX Micro Brow Pencil being a possible dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. I was excited to see if this was true.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz
£22.00 for 0.8g from Feelunique
“Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz® – an award-winning ultra-slim, retractable pencil that creates precise, hair-like strokes”.
- Available in 10 colours
- Mimics natural hair
- Long-wearing, smudge-proof formula
- Glides on effortlessly
- Fine tip to spot-fill areas where brow hair is sparse

This has a very thin nib that allows you to apply short strokes in the direction of your natural hair. It is quite soft so colour payoff is good without having to press hard and it doesn’t feel like it is scratching your skin which I often find with brow pens. It lasts all day without rubbing off. My brows look very natural. For the colour, I wear Medium Brown. This matches my natural brows perfectly. This brow product lives up to the claims.
NYX Professional Makeup Micro Brow Pencil
£10.00 from Boots

- Available in 8 colours
- Dual-ended Micro Brow Pencil sculpts and tidies your arches with minimal effort
- Define and tidy brows without the dreaded ‘drawn on’ effect
- The skinny, mechanical nib can help you recreate the finest brow hairs
I apply this pencil in the exact same way. Drawing small strokes in the direction of my natural hairs. Building them up slowly. This pencil is slightly hard so payoff is not as good and it takes a little longer to build up. I chose Ash Brown for the colour as it was the closest shade.
Both products are very similar. They have a similar sized nip with a twist up mechanism to save needing a sharpener. I love this feature as it means you can use it easily without fuss. The nibs are very fine and allow small strokes to be drawn. They both have a spooly brush on the end which allows you to brush through your hairs to ensure they are well blended. So, for the actual product I am very impressed how similar they are.
This is where the products differ slightly. The Anastasia Brow Wiz is a softer product and applies to the skin much easier than the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil. I have to really build up the Nyx product. I prefer how the Anastasia Brow Wiz applies.
The Medium Brown Anastasia colour is the perfect shade for me and I just couldn’t find a NYX colour to match it perfectly. The Ash Brown was the nearest shade but it has a slight redness to the shade. However, when applied they both look fine.
Overall, these products are very similar. I can see why people of calling the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil a dupe. I am happy with how both apply and look but I do prefer the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz as the colour suits me better and it applies nicer due the consistency of the product. However, I am still impressed with the NYX Micro Brow Pencil and have been wearing this one every day. I have been saving my Anastasia pencil for night outs and special occasions.
I hope you enjoyed this post.
