When a new season arrives, it’s like we shed our old skin and adorn ourselves in a new one. Of course, since we can’t literally shed our skin, we do the second best thing – step up our skincare, renew our wardrobe with trendy fall items and finally, turn to new colours. When it comes to the makeup world, things could not be more exciting as so many new trends have emerged, all completely in sync with the golden season, and we simply can’t wait to tell you all about the five most dominant makeup ideas, techniques and colours for the season, so we’ll jump right in without further ado.
Cherry on the sundae
It seems that every makeup and cosmetics company has launched (or is in the process of launching) their own version of the cherry palette. Urban Decay was the first among many, with a couple of shades in the Born to Run palette, and now with a full-blown cherry-inspired collection. Plum, burgundy and cherry hues will be very hot this season, and if you’re looking for some inspo, the YouTube old-school makeup guru Tati is here to guide you towards creating the perfect cherry look. Granted, as she says, it’s not an everyday look, but it’s definitely stunning, warm and vamp at the same time, and one of the best techniques is to smoke it out for maximum effect.
Electric blue may have dominated the summer, but watch out makeup lovers, as teal and emerald, especially shimmery and metallic ones, are here to make your eyes pop (figuratively, of course). One of the best things about the return of the green is that all the companies made sure it was just the right kind of green, one that will compliment every eye colour and just shine like a true emerald. If you want to warm it up and make it earthier, we suggest a touch of warm brown in the crease, and you’ll look absolutely stunning.
The old favourites
When it comes to the best autumn lip makeup, some things absolutely never change – the burnt orange, the berry and deep burgundy shades as well as those chocolaty browns and even mahogany reds remain the autumn cult favourites, so check the expiration dates on your go-to fall lippies and make sure you stock up on all of these warm and juicy shades. Now, when wearing something as strong as a burgundy or berry lipstick, it’s best to keep the eye look on the low-key side. However, when you’re craving a bit of that vamp effect, don’t shy away from mixing them with strong, even monochromatic eye looks for that wow impact that will not go unnoticed.
Blast from a recent past
If you have snagged one of the countless orange, burnt orange and chocolaty eye palettes last year, put them front and centre on your vanity, because they are far from retirement. All the gorgeous burnt orange and even bright orange hues are the perfect fall colours, not only because the warm tones essentially look amazing on everyone, but because they actually match the colours of the leaves that are changing shades daily. For a little extra pizzazz on your eye look, add a touch of that metallic gold on the inner corners of your eyes to really make this one golden autumn. This look is best worn with either a brown lippie or a sheer lip gloss, depending on whether you’re going for casual or a more glammed up look.
The one not to forget
Of course, we have no doubt that you’ll be reaching for your warm bronzers and golden highlighters for a very long time – probably until the first snow. However, there is one makeup item that definitely deserves not to be neglected and that is the mighty blush. Blush has, in the wake of all the new face products, become incredibly neglected and unfairly so. Therefore, the next makeup purchase you make definitely needs to include a blush, and not in just any hue – pick among the burgundy and plum colour family that will give you that wonderful flush like you’re this cute person who’s just a little cold. You can ‘ice’ things out with an iridescent white-ish highlighter, but blush is paramount, and it goes particularly well with a simple mascara and a strong lip look.
